I was there yesterday with a guide. 4 of us caught 36 in 4 hours. Not as good as I expected, but we had fun. I have a separate post on this trip. I might suggest you access the La . Sportsman issue ( not sure which one) a few months back that listed all of the man made "brush piles" that are scattered throughout the lake. They are listed by coordinates. You will have to enter the coordinates into a GPS to find them. The simplest ones are at the Pendleton bridge pilings crossing the lake. Tie up to one of those pilings and drop some shiners on them. The catch reports are really pretty good right now, but you have to know where the brush piles are. Good luck.

I really can't stray far from the park since we are camping as a family. I usually just fish a few hours at a time then come back to the camper. I have never fished brush before. I really think this will just end up being an attempt at largemouths and spots. Also, my new Hook-7 came in, but I don't think it will be installed in time. I doubt I can find any bait or brush on my own.

I used to have a camp there and caught trolling the grass lines at this time of year. Going north from the park there should be a good grass line outside of Bass Haven, one past Rock Island in front of Toledo Bend Resort, another starting at Red's point going north toward Pirate's Cove, and the outside of the north island at the mouth of Pirate's Cove. This time of year I trolled 1/16 oz Roadrunners in about 20-24 foot depths at about 1 1/2 MPH. I always tipped them with the Berkley Gulp 1" minnow in chartreuse. There are 3 artificial reefs near the park. One is near the launch, one is in the WLF cove near the spillway, and one is off the end of the underwater ledge near the spillway. All are marked with yellow buoys.

    Good luck.

Yup, I usually count on that. I could find no grass at all, and no one was strolling.

What Cajun Pop said is exactly the areas I was talking about. Interesting no grass now, wonder if the recent high water had something to do with it? I have also run straight across the lake from there to the Texas side. Strolled shiners and road runners outside the boat lane and have caught fish.

If you go toward the Louisiana islands from the park, go like you will go between them. There is a trough leading up to the gap between the islands and there is a tree in the trough at about 20'-22'. I have caught some there and on the west side of the islands in the standing timber I have bounced around in 20'-25' fishing about 16'-18'deep and caught a few. Also, going west from Toledo Bend resort there is a tree with a piece of rebar sticking out that stays baited. All you can see at this lake level is the rebar and it is hard to find but usually productive. It is probably 100 yards west of the boat lane.

No need to start a new thread. It was terrible. The only perch bite I found was on the campground docks. Those were small fish. I even tried docks up from Red's point. I never got a single bite anywhere doing anything other than those floating docks. Once the campground filled, that bite left as well.

The bass bite was ok. Wacky worms shallow on points where the haygrass was absent. Mostly short fish though.
