When bud lite lime came out a friend bought a case from Texass .
It was 100+ degrees
Hot humid
We were trolling Bandit 300 on 10 lbs cloro line
We caught so many we lost count.
Stayed all day and got so drunk we would not drive home.
I never sing in front of people but I got so snooker ed I sang Tennessee Ernie Ford "16 tons"
Over and over
We laughed so much my sides hurt for days.
All summer we caught them things
Took kids every weekend
They got tired of catching them.
I never touched bud lite lime again![]()
Ok, I'm certifiably nuts. I went to Blue Bill yesterday and conditions were terrible so I drove to the Hudson low head dam and conditions were worse but there were a few idiots out in it who weren't catching fish.
I served in the USN during the Vietnam era, assigned to a fighter squadron aboard a carrier. Just prior to a launch the air boss would turn the ship into the wind to assist aircraft off the deck. Sometimes the wind blew so hard that if you were on the flight deck you could be knocked down by it. Yesterday, standing on the east bank of the river by the low head I felt just like I was back on the flight deck, prepping to launch.
A note on the east side of the river. As you drive into the area there is a short road that will permit you to drive down on the gravel bar. Be very careful, the water has washed out the road and as you are descending to the gravel bar the left side of that road is gone. I nearly put the front end of my pickup into that hole and had I done so, there is no telling what kind of damage I would have done to my vehicle.
I want to openly criticize the ODWF or the State or whoever is responsible for maintaining that parking and access area. In addition to a dead deer in the parking lot, trash all over the place and that washed out road, you guys are doing a helluva job. Nice to know where my tax dollars and licensing fees aren't going.
Not sure if it's still in the plans but many years ago the wildlife Department was going to build a Spoonbill station in that cleared off area that use to be heavily wooded. It has been cleared now for over a year and is nothing but a muddy mess. It's sad that people continue to trash a nice location. The little asphalt strip that run's down to the sand bar to the left actually use to connect to a cement boat ramp that has long been covered in gravel and no longer used. When the water was down late last year you could actually walk a long distance across the lake and could see the old ramp if you dug through the rocks with your feet. It's been over 15-18 years since I've seen that ramp used.

Jon, I did see the crater you mentioned.would be a bad day for sure driving into it. The damn wind is driving me crazy so I went out today to try and catch a fish. I started on the east side or the low water dam. Wind was howling and I didn't get a bite. Drove over to the west side and had the same results(caught the hell out of them last year from my boat on that side). There was virtually no one at the dam, bad sign. Left there and drove to spring Creek. Water was a lot clearer, but the catching still wasn't going on. Being the hard headed person i am, I then drove to the ft Gibson dam. Fished for a bit with no success, then went In the tackle shop to ask for help, they told me the sandies are biting early. They are using the 10' plus rods with a popping cork to get to them. I was very under gunned with my crappie gear to say the least. Not wanting to accept defeat I then drove to horshoe bend on tenkiller to try my luck. I finally got a couple of bites but not enough to bring home. There were a few people trolling and they were catching a few.
Anyone tried behind the dam at Keystone lately? I have to go to an appointment tomorrow morning in Cleveland and could stop by Keystone Dam after lunch if it is worth my time.
The sand bass and crappie spawns from last year were a complete washout for me. Way too much water for way too long a period of time so I went to Florida and caught pompano and flounder instead. Had a great week long trip.
This year we've had some pretty nice weather with a lot of sun, some warmer temps and not as much rain as we had last year but I think these conditions have caused me to be antsy and over ready to go when, in fact, the conditions aren't right yet and I'll bet it will be at least mid April before much, if anything, begins to happen. All that, plus the wind has got to lay a little bit....stuff makes me crazy.
Anyway, since I so seldom know what I'm talking about, I'm gonna believe that until I start hearing of people catching fish. I don't care anything about snagging a spoonbill but I'm looking forward to tying into some catfish, too. Everything should bite when the weather cooperates.
I've lived in Tulsa for 36 years but I've never fished below K'stone dam. I used to be young and tough, able to handle the cold, and all of that. I had a skeeter and I, along with a buddy would put in at Appalachia bay and run up the arm of the Cimmaron (I think that's the name of it). We found a couple of floating boat docks in roughly 25' of water and one morning we braved the below freezing conditions and high winds, ran up the river and fished for crappie off of one of those docks. It was so cold the water on our lines would freeze.
In around an hour my buddy and I filled up a 48 quart Igloo (with no ice in it) and the live well of my boat, with slabs. We would stand on that dock with our backs to the wind and tight line jigs. Fish were still biting when we left but neither of us could stand that cold weather any longer.
We spent around 3 hours filleting those crappie. I grew up in the country, in the deep south and we seldom if ever filleted a fish. We might cut them in half from front to back to fit them into a skillet but we would always fry them whole, fins, tail, bones and all.
We always fried bream whole and I never heard of anyone filleting a bream until I moved to Oklahoma. I still don't go that far with bream and there is a little technique required to eat them but after you figure it out it's pretty easy to rip through a fish in a short moment or two.

I see a difference in taste but im thinking a cast iron skillet butter brown both sides and season.but people that dont eat fish cant tell the difference from crappie.I can crappie has a clean t.I taste sand bass have a muddy taste..nut there is a difference
Another Saturday with no luck, and again I wasn't the only one getting skunked on big cabin creek.
