My brother in law got checked on Sardis and had short fish, I don't remember how many were short but his ticket was over $500. The sad part is that he WAS checking them, but he was using one of the old Frabil crappie checkers (the green one not the newer red Caps and Coleman model) and the big Sardis crappie didn't fit all the way down into the checker so they were measuring longer than they actually were. It was an honest mistake on his part but he still had to pay the ticket.

He was just as upset with the fact that they took all his fish as he was at the fine. They took ALL his fish, not just the short ones.

Man, when did fishin get so complicated. A rule is a rule, yesterday, today and tomorrow. In my mind, it all comes back to how you were brought up. I pay attention to rules cause I was taught to. Simple. Some folks not as luck as I was, I guess. Not gonna do much about those folks. I'm keeping ME legal and everybody else has to deal with that issue on their own. At some point they'll figure out how good it feels to do it the right way. That is all!!!

It's not complicated Jimmydee, guess some just want to be difficult. And comparing law enforcement (game wardens, police, soldiers) to Nazi's took the cake....Lol. Wonder how long that fellow would last out there without the guys in badges and uniforms keeping the peace the best they can. It's simple, follow the rules. You like smaller crappie fish ponds and smaller lakes. I wouldn't drive no more than a half hour for some small crappie. If you fish big lakes your there for the challenge and to catch a bigger fish.

Hoss, first of all, soldiers aren't law enforcement and should never have been included in your list. The soldiers I've known who've been forced into that role didn't care much for it at all. It's a changing world though and it looks that the military may be headed in that direction.

Secondly, a police state is precisely what I meant. Nazi Germany was an example, but there are many others you can look to if you don't like the comparison. When you have to run to a badge to settle your issues, you've lost an important element of liberty.

For the record, I'm all for following rules. Jesus pretty much demands it of me. I'm also all for concerned citizens voicing complaints. However, I believe people can work out most of their differences without involving law enforcement. Respect, courtesy, and politeness go along way in diplomacy. But that's just my way. You have yours.

Might as well lock this thread out now. I think everyone has voiced there opinion on the matter. Any more seems to be arguing. Too many good people getting a little sideways with each other.

Nah nah. I don't want to get into it either. I just didn't want to be understood as saying that following the rules was a bad thing to do. I went fishing today and came home empty handed because everything I caught was too short. It happens.

To me, a fellow keeping short fish is pretty low on the list of world concerns, so I'm not going to confront someone about it. If it's higher on your list (or the OP's list) then confront the suspected short-fish-keeper personally. Leave the cops out of it if at all possible. That was my whole point. I'm sorry if it got lost somewhere.
