Default Southwest LA sacalait advice needed

Good evening folks, new to the board and needing some help... I live in southwest Louisiana and fairly new to the white perch fishing world. Bass fished my whole life and looking for a new challenge. Would love some area suggestions for the white perch. The only white perch fishing I do and have done is on the chicken coop and genrally only a few times in January.....Although it has made me think I'm pretty good at catching them (not this year though) I know I have a lot to learn.... Thank you for any advice given and look forward to being around on this board.....

Welcome, I am in the same boat (so to speak) as you. Been a Bass fisherman all my life and am trying to learn the art of White Perch fishing. Can't help much but am learning more each day.

We have alot of areas to fish in this area. Houston river, calcasieu, westfork, and bayou serpent all local. With in a half hour you have sabine, lacassine, mermentau, and the bell city drain ditch. An hour away you have old damn river, cocodrie lake, bundicks, anaccoca, and vernon.

When Lacassine Refruge opens you can fish the Streeters canals and one mile canal. If you have a 25hp on your boat then the Big Burns can't be beat for bass and crappie. You have to buy a permit to fish it.

I have caught them in the back in what is called the c y canals and humble ditch. I fished the canals with pearl colored tube jigs 12in deep along the grass line out from the banks, and on points. Some times with beatle spins in the middle of the canals.
