First off welcome aboard! I have never fished pickwick but I can give a some basic information. Long lining trolling is good right now if you're setup for it. Also I've been catching them on shallow flats 4 to 6 fow using a jig and float. You might want to let us know if you will be fishing from a boat or the bank.

From past experience I would fish in Bear Creek or Yellow Creek. With the cold weather we have been having I would start deep and work shallow till I found some fish.

I will be fishing from an Grizzly aluminum center console boat. I don't really have it rigged up for anything, as far as trolling. The only crappie fishing I have done is in south AL and that was on cypress flats or drowning minnows in tree tops around 4-8 FOW. I have wanted to get into different types of crappie fishing, but I don't have a fishing partner. The thought of managing 6-8 poles by myself and learning gives me a headache just thinking about it!

It's not as hard as it sounds. Do you have a variable speed trolling motor?

Yes I do! I have a Minnkota Terrova. I also have a Lowrance HDS fish finder but not very good at using it! I have been bass fishing until now, but have always had a hard time finding fish then going back and catching them. So I can never figure out what they were. White bass seem to be the only exception to that! I think they would hit a bare hook!

Thank you! I have tried Wheeler a dozen times or more, but have only managed about 5 fish. Caught them in tree tops in Arrowhead canal.

I have never fished pickwick either but you have good equipment to fish anywhere. you may need some rod holders to long line but those are easy to come by. When I go away from home to a new and unfamiliar body of water I use to hire a guide. For example the first time I went to Santee cooper we hired a guide for 1 day. Mainly to get familiar with the area so we would not tear anything up. Another alternative is find a local to go with you or help you. You are on the right place to do that. You can gain a lot of information from this forum. There are a lot of fine people on this site that will help you in any way. If you want to learn how to long line come to Weiss or Guntersville and Ill help you. There are others that will do the same.
