    Default Murray Report 1/24/15

After looking at the forecast for today and seeing "winds light and variable," I was all in for a fishing trip!

The morning started out cold... 23 to be exact, but the wind didn't blow and the sun came out and made fishing very comfortable.

Well the Striper Capital of the Universe lived up to its hype at my first stop. I boated 4 of them and had 3 keepers. The biggest two were around 8.5 lb a piece. It was quite the tussle on 14' poles, but they proved to be too much for the line sides and I was successfully able to avoid any tangles!!

After 2 hours with no crappie bites I pulled lines and made a run. Didn't take long before I hooked up on my first crappie of the day, a 1.9 lb buck fish. I stayed in one little stretch the rest of the day and managed to catch 7 and lost another 3 that I'm certain were crappie. It was slow going, but I wasn't sure I could find anything better so I stayed with it and beat out a mess of fish.

Best color today was pink and fish were caught 12-14 foot down in 12-20 FOW. Tightlining was the method of choice today. Water was pretty dingy but fishable in the Little River arm and the water temp was down to 43 degrees. Things should pick up in the coming weeks.

Good job Derek. Hope the weather settles down a bit, I am ready to give it a shot. 23 is a really cold start, glad it warmed up a bit. Tuesday sposed to be in the 60s. Looks like you depleted the perch population too, least a couple of the smaller ones look like perch in the picture.

That looks like a good days work. Nice job CB! Thanks for the pictures. Did you tip your jigs with minnows or fish minnows at all?

Yes, the striper were caught while crappie fishing on jigs and tuffies. They were 12-14 ft down in about 14 ft of water. There was a lot of bait in the area. I caught the 3 keepers in about 20 minutes while I was trying to pack up to move. Just hit a school of them...

Good report and a nice catch. The fun begins when the striper hits the long rods Thanks for the report Derick.
