funny of all the times I've been there I either catch gills or cats, I don't remember catching a Crappie. I know sounds strange

I've got some questions for the Tville regulars.
1. What is the biggest crappie you have ever caught from Tville?
2. What is the average size crappie you catch consistantly at Tville?
3. How often do u take home a limit of crappie from Tville?
I'm just curious as to the quality of fish everyone is experiencing and the shear number of crappie the lake produces. My brother talked to our fisheries biologist and he said Tville was one of the most fertile lakes in the state. He said it was a true crappie factory. From what I experienced last year I believe him. Also the spring flooding hindered fishing thru the spawning months and kept all those fish from being caught, which made for outstanding fishing from June- Jan. Not to mention the warmer than usual water temps throughout the fall/early winter.
I've only been able to manage 12 1/2" as my biggest fish, with quite a few fish being 11-12". My biggest 7 fish weight was 5lbs back in June. I know there are bigger fish in Tville, especially during prespawn. We are always focusing on Ky Lake during April and haven't really been able to fish Tville during prespawn. Tville seems to be about 2 weeks behind Ky Lake for the spawn so we are always gone during prespawn time here. Plus, by the time we get back from our West Ky trip the wives are beginning to wonder if we still love them, so I have take a couple weeks off from fishing. Haha.
Thanks guys for all the awesome info. I'm really glad I became a member. Looking forward to some bigger numbers to shoot for.

Biggest single fish ... probably 12" or so
Avg size ... 10-11" (recently, anyway)
Limit ... only caught one limit worthy of mentioning, back a long time ago, and the 15 fish weighed 10lbs (meat scale). And the only reason I even bothered to weigh them was because the avg size of that time was barely 9" ... or you'd have to catch 50 fish to get a limit of keepers. I caught all but one of those 15 fish from a root wad no bigger than a basketball, and right against the bank. Not "exactly" sure what color/bait I was using, but if memory serves me well ... it would probably have been a 1/16oz weedless head with a 1.5" BPS Squirmin Squirt tube in Electric Blue/Chartreuse, seeing as how that was about the only bait I was throwing back then.
There are a lot more Crappie being caught & taken from Taylorsville, than one would think. So, I truly hope that they have had some decent spawns in the last few years, to replace those numbers.
I've also noticed that one is as much or more likely to catch a Black Crappie, as they are to catch a White Crappie, these days. I'm not sure if that's from the KDFWR stocking practices, or just a natural reversal over time & changing conditions of the lake, but it's a total reversal from what I've experienced in the decades prior to recent years. Not griping, just an observation![]()

My biggest was 2.28,Oct 2015
I read somewhere, maybe the 2016 fishing forcast, that Taylorsville had a good spawn this year. Witch surprised me because of all the high water. Shows what I know.
I don't see how spawn was successful either.we caught ton of good fish from late August thru dec casting jigs on 1/32 ounce heads.we caught numerous 11-13 inch fish.I tried posting pics from photo bucket with no luck
Yeah I just went back and read the 2016 fishing forcast on kdfwr website. Say 2015 was good spawns for black and whites. Also says blacks are now the dominant species. I live 10 minutes from the lake so I'm happy with the way things are going there. Between Memorial Day and Labor Day I don't hardly fish it though. My patterns usually revolve around the main lake and it's just flat out dangerous in the summer. You have to pick your shots, like after a bad storm that clears the lake of pleasure boaters. Nice in the fall though.

We caught mostly whites Aug thru end of September then started catching mostly blacks.I mostly fish main lake as well.I failed to mention I always tip jig with crappie nibble.there were several days we would limit out in 2 or 3 hours.got cabin fever real bad.
There where day I caught 60 crappie trolling and only had 20 keepers. Most fish 6"-8" range big fish was 12" or so. I mostly fish around jacks creek and put in at settlers ramp.
