    Default New fish finder

Buying a fish finder/gps. I'm thinking Humminbird 899 or 999. Price is similar. Any advice on which one will work better for trolling and marking structure , especially in shallow water? Seems like you can find good deals on them. Have they been discontinued and replaced with the helix units? Seems like helix units aren't the same quality?

If you find both an 899 and a 999. Go with the 999 due to hdsi transducer.

The 999 has a slightly larger screen. You won't be upset no matter which you buy but as time goes on, you will wish you had spent the extra $200 and bought the 999. I've got both and love them. Discontinued just means a good deal!

You can do the 899 and a transducer exchange (before opened) with humminbird for a few extra bucks and still have hdsi at low cost.

That's what I was initially looking at, but I tell ya, the external gps puck, which they say will make it read your speed accurately, and having a unit up front and at the console is very appealing to me. Being able to cruise around with the big motor and find the fish first, then use the unit up front when I'm trolling around sounds like its going to help me to find the fish easier and cover more water, quicker.
