I've had very similar experiences with marking the fool out of fish and not catching! Like Butch said, I always crank up and idle around looking for another school that might be feeding. It's a wonder with as much bait as there is in the perch holes that they'll hit anything you drop down...

One thing you might want to try that has helped me in the past is to use medium shiners instead of tuffies. Sometimes they seem like they like the bigger bait and I know they'll eat the larger stuff because I've seen what they have in the mouths when I pull them up...not to mention what's spit up in the cooler!
