Welcome to Oconee. First let me say Oconee can be a very humbling lake at any given time. When they backed up the lake they left a lot of standing timber and topped it so when the lake is full it will be 10-12ft below the surface of the water. With good electronics you can find these areas (there are many and not hard to find). Start over these areas in the morning and as the sun gets higher in the sky move to the flats or under water points (a navonics chip is very helpful to find these). Hope this will help.

It will ruin you financially and cause you sleep with you eyes wide open. But if you persist here is what I would do. Look for boats with big long nets. These boats are easy to spot when the nets are in the upright position. Also look for boats with more fishing rods sticking out of them than you see on the rack at Bass Pro. If you get close enough to see the people in these boats they will have a dazed look as they get very little sleep! When you find them start fishing near them and watch what they are doing. Hopefully, you will find one that knows what he is doing. On the other hand you may find me out there. If you do you are back to square one. Like "thespiderman" said, "Oconee can be very humbling". If that doesn't work try launching at the JP store on Hwy 44 (Lick Creek) outside of Eatonton. There is a $5 launch fee. Go under the bridge and head towards the main lake. When you go under the second bridge start looking for timber. Good electronics are a must. When you find the timber do two things: 1) what thespiderman said and 2) what I said.
