    Default What's up with Dogwood??

Did not fish there much earlier in the year but have put in there twice in recent weeks and blanked both times. Even if crappie are hard to come up with, you can normally find gills or bass. Not so for me and since I was the only boat on the lake everyone else must have better sense than me. The electronics is not even marking many fish.
I don' pretend to be a good fisherman. I have seen one or two and that is not me. But, I did limit out Friday and came close yesterday on two different lakes. Why not Dogwood?
    Anyone have clue?

The East bay is off limits and roped off for water fowl hunters. The fish certainly think the lake is closed. Guess they had the day off too. Sure not going to fight that wind to get out today!

Couple of things...when they got rid of the 10 hp limit restrictions on motor size,,it really raised the fishing pressure on it as now all boats of any motor size can get on it. Check with the bait shop lady there and she will tell you its totally fubar'ed . Then you got the Amish fishing hell out of it especially in the spring and they keep everything no matter what size it is. And they are pounding it. You can still catch a few good bass out of it as well as blue gills and redears, but the crappies leave a lot to be desired. And its not going to get any better either as fishing pressure will continue to increase. Used to be one of my fav. bluegill/redear lakes. I always condemned DNR for killing off the lilly pads as well...that cover protected the fish and gave a person a awesome cover to fish as well. Its a continual battle of DNR doing this and that to our fisheries and when they change bioligists every so often you get a new one with his idea of how to improve a lake, and sometimes its a battle of wits as to what is good and what is detrimental to helping what used to be a awesome fishery. I don't see it improving in the future either.

Everything you said is true plus the pressure of ice fishing. Thousands of fish come off the ice when conditions are right. I once made a comment about the hundreds of fish some of the campers take out and I mean each person in the group. When you consider there are dozens of people doing the same thing it amounts to thousands of fish. I have no issue with keeping fish but why does one person need a thousand filets. Just glad that gas prices are down so I can spend my fishing dollars in Illinois and Kentucky.

It's pretty sad when I run into Amish deer hunters and we are talking and they start complaining about crappie from dogwood being so danged small. LOL, you have to know that's a real complaint if it's coming from them!!!

maybe thats what happened to them. lol up here they will overload a pontoon and catch as many as they can. last year, on the ice, at genestrapons(sylvan lk), we watched two of them carry off 5 yes 5 buckets full of fish. there were also about 50 dinks tossed all over the ice.

I used to have a place on the West lakes Chain by Rome City IN. It was common to see pontoon boats with 10 Amish guys on them fishing for blue gill and crappie. They would keep every fish they caught. If they saw you catch something, they would practically tie off on your boat to fish your spot. Course, I could almost say the same thing about the bass tournament guys there too LOL.
