ME! Never had one before until Saturday evening. I literally thought I was going to die. Excruciating pain in my left lower back and middle belly. A pain that I could not escape from no matter if I stood, sat, or laid down in the bed.
A friend was working in the ER and I drove down to talk with him around 6:30 Saturday. He said it sounded like a stone or maybe I was just badly constipated. After a CT scan and 2 bags of fluids via an IV, some pain meds were my ticket home around 10 that evening. "Drink LOTS of water or beer and hold on" is what the doctor told me.
I have a 2mm stone that has still not passed, although the major pain and discomfort ended last night. Must have dropped into my bladder. Google says that the bad part is over. My wife says the rest of the trip will be a short one.
Thought I was all washed up fellas, but I'm back among the land of the living. GTT

Until you have a kidney stone attack, it is hard to imagine the pain. Someone told me it was the male equivalent to childbirth. I have had one bout and I am now a believer. I have a friend who was a tough, brawny highway patrolman. He said one flared up on him when he was about 100 miles from home. He thought he could drive home to get it treated. Ended up on the side of the road waiting on an ambulance.

I've had one episode and pray I never have another. Put me on the bathroom floor in the fetal position & then straight to the ER.

My wife wasn't too sympathetic as she says I enjoyed the moments while she was in labor with our two children too much. She said I visited too much and wasn't sympathetic to her labor pains. Maybe I did, it was an exciting time for sure!
THIS on the other hand IS NOT very exciting. Sitting around now drinking water, water, and more water. I also sneaked a little Tang in one glass.....had to have something with a little flavor. GTT
Had my first one this year. Quite the experience to say the least. having a baby can't be any worse pain or there would only one child per household,,,LOL! I've had broke legs, ankles, arm and fractured back before but I do believe none of those hurt as bad as that kidney stone did. Hope I never have another one as long as i live.

I've had 3 of em, and you are correct once they reach the bladder your good to go, but while they are moving down the ureter , undiscribable pain, had last hit me around midnight the night of the first CACA tourney of 2015 , back in March, stayed up till 3:30 in tears most of the time , was putting on close to head to ER and it finally made it to the bladder, was able to fish the tourney and passed the stone that afternoon after getting home, 2mm is a pretty small one, hard to believe something that small can hurt so bad, biggest one I had was 6mm and they had to go in and get it, to big to pass!!!
