Reading up a bit without codes the most common is fuel system issue. How much fuel is in it, last time filters were change? Could even just be a bad sensor on the tank.

I've tried cranking since it cooled off. Nothing. I don't believe it's getting fuel. I'm going back armed with a you tube video on how to prime it, check for air leaks, and/or replace the fuel filter and/or housing if necessary. I'll let you know how this works. I think I can, I think I can, I think....

If it has electric fuel supply pump, check fuse. Has to be fuel related.

What year model? The DEF sensor will let it run, just not fast, enough to get u out of the road. I put those TransTec code scanners on all mine. You can read the codes running down the road, under load. I got mine from China for $54, but Advance Auto has them for about $75.
I have 4 older Ford diesels, 7.3's, IDI's, all with over 300 K on them. I'm Scared of the new ones. They added a bunch of sensors on the new ones and they can go bad. The newer gas engines are just as bad. Friend spent $1200 just to have plugs changed!!

It was the fuel system. Needed a new fuel filter housing.
