    Default Port of Bisteneau

My son Josh sent me these pics of the Port of Bisteneau. Is this Salvinia bad or what?

I fish 7 days a week; some days for fish, everyday for men.

That is a mess for sure. Does that hurt the fish or just the fishing?

Yes sad indeed. Ive been keeping tabs on all the happenings concerning the salvinia/drawdowns Etc. Looks like the weevil approach is coming next. Water is on the way down yet again. So fat there are 3 methods to battle it. Spraying, Drawdown and Weevils. The problem is, they dont coordinate and utilize them at the right times where those 3 things work together. They wait intil now when its flourishing when its the worst to spray, waste of time. they need to draw down and spray the pockets that are holding salvinia. The bar pits, etc. Then introduce the weevils and spray when they fill the lake back up in the spring. The weevils cant handle the cold. Oh well just my opinion. Sad for such a beautiful lake to go to waste like this.

Yep, very sad. I read last week that they just released some weevils that were offspring of weevils that had survived the winter. Like Progator said, they need to coordinate their efforts.

My Idea: Put a bounty on it.... Weighed and paid at specific boat launches at the time of harvest so no one could "cheat". Within a year you wouldnt be able to find enough to fill a teacup. And I bet in the end less money would be spent. Then - Put it in a big field, Let it die/dry out then use it to clean up oil spills like this feller did with the hay.

Sad, I fished this lake some in the 80's; it was beautiful.

That's the exact reason I moved from Saline Lake to Toledo Bend. LDWF has no clue what they are going to do about the Salvinia problems on all those lakes that are infested. I was on the Saline Lake commission for 3 1/2 years and watched as the lake just steadily went down. Unless they come up with some sort of solution soon those lakes that are infested will never recover, they will be lost.
