    Default BOATING LICENSE

Had no idea MO requires boaters to be licensed! When did this pass? Looks like it costs $40 and you do it on line. Can you get one at the local license offices? I assume it is on motorized boats only.?

Yes, anyone born after January 1, 1984 is required to pass a boating safety course.

The biggest problem is the on-line part. It isn't as involves as hunter safety, but I've been told it takes 2-3 hours to complete .

I wouldn't say it's the biggest "problem". I'm going through it with my son right now. I think the online course is REALLY well designed and its evident that a lot of work and effort went into putting it together. Although one could argue that there's so much stuff out there that doesn't "apply" to the way they use the lake, (does a fisherman really need to know where the impeller is on a jet ski??) or seems to be just plain "common sense", I think if people were to actually go through the course and not just click through it as fast as they can, there would be a lot fewer idiots and asshol3s on the water that we all love to complain about. I found that it is at LEAST 3 hours if you actually read everything and watch all the videos and don't just blast through it.

Its been that way for years. At least 10 or more. When i took it it was 12 multiple chose questions and then poof i was done!!! My brother got his a few years ago, and it was MUCH more involved. Multiple sections on every topic with pictures and lessons for everything you can think of.

Not gonna lie, I wish everyone had to take the thing! Some of the people out there scare the crap out of me!

It took my teenager a couple of hours, and then he was able to print out a certificate to operate the boat until his license came in the mail.

Good thing I'm old... I hate tests.

I have a nephew who is going to need to take that test, I think I am going to take it with him. I'm sure I'll still learn a thing or two. I agree, I think everyone should have to take the test to operate a boat. and the final exam should be timed test live at the ramp. you have 7 minutes from the time you start backing down the ramp to the time you exit the ramp. block two lanes and you fail!
