    Default Why No Females

Kept and cleaned about 20-30 Gills today (caught on salted raw shrimp) and not one was a female.Anyone have any ideals on why no females were in the bunch? Also had 2 redears and one of those was female.
What time of year does bream spawn?

    They are spawning today.
You were on a bed of males and the females haven't moved in yet or dropped eggs and moved on.
    Opinions may vary .

These fish were scattered. It took 8 hrs to catch what I did.In one spot I might have caught 10 or so.Water is very murcky so beds are not visible and all the banks are protected by reeds so reaching shoreline from a boat is impossible.Water temp was in low 80's and please keep in mind I'm in Texas so its probably a lot warmer here.I'm thinking they might have already spawned.
Maybe the beds are between the bank and the reeds?

Bluegill spawn all summer . I would imagine you are correct about the primary spawn being earlier. There will be gills on the beds every full moon and to a lesser extent every dark moon. If there is shallow water between the reeds and bank ,there may be scattered beds. If the fish are pressured they will move deeper to spawn.
I'm quite the fan of the little salad shrimp salted for bait.
I'm thinking the girls were out a bit deeper than the beds .
I and the wife found nice females a couple days ago suspended 4-5' over 10' of water.

I did see suspended fish on the graph in deeper 6'-8' water a few feet out from where I was catchn but could'nt get bit by them using night crawlers. It is a pressured small public lake guessing 100 acres or so.
    Thanks for your knowledge.

Beware dont use the prepared frozen cooked shrimp.I tried that route and not as many bites and would'nt stay on the hook.Who knows it might have been the color (raw) white vs (cooked) orange.Get raw shrimp and cut in small pieces then salt heavily with a little water added to make it slushy then set them out for a while to dry but not completely dry, just enough to stiffen them up. Good Luck
