I agree with Pat. Brian at bbg marine was been fantastic to deal with. He is very patient and answers all your questions. I have bought from him several times and always had a good experience.

As stated already its a ford vs chevy thing. I have birds and love mine. I believe that lowrance has better DI but im real happy with the birds SI and I can more than see whats down there with my birds DI as well. For me, its all about user friendly, and the bird does that for me at a very quick pace. You should be happy either way.

I have birds. Like my buddies lowrance better. Go with the largest screen. Even the 998 screen is too small IMO. Humminbird has a $300 rebate on their 1199 through next month. You can find an 1199 online for $2K-$300 rebate = $1.7K. Got my 1199 new for $1,880 w/out a rebate. Just have to watch for deals online. If you go with Lowrance you'll pay more, but the down imaging is great!!

birdman i wish i had your talent ,,,, nothing comes easy for me,,,,but i dont give up, i do enjoy fishing and trap shooting , bow hunting always took up most of my time but i have got away from it, already got to many deer. well maybe not the buck doe ratio is so far out of wack its a little different hunting now. i do thank all you guys that have gave me advice.... one minute i am thinking hummingbird and the next minute lowrance. i think hummingbird might be a little cheaper.....the deciding factor might be the best deal at the time...... thanks again keep the info coming.

One other shout out on HB models, they will be compatible with Lakemaster mapping chips which are outstanding and MK
terrova TMs. Also better reputation on customer service. When I threw down the coin for my 998s I did a lot of research before I made my move. I mostly fish Truman in Mo. And really use the Lakemaster but they have my favorite lake in HD so I am a little bias. As someone mentioned on here even the 998 is still a little small for him, I love my 2 998s but.......
i am going to start keeping eye out for good used 1198 for my console unit LOL.
