Default Kayak Trip Report, Ditto Pits

I went back this morning for a few hours using a single pole casting small jigs and spinners. Best bait ended up being a 1/16oz spinner with a gold blade and an 1 ½” white twister tail body. Kept another limit of Crappie plus 30 gills

I kinda figured you'd go back....this time of year, that place is HOT. Thanks for a great trip on Saturday....somehow you keep this old man going. Looks like a lot of rain most of the week but I may give it a try on my day off (Thursday) -

I park under the bridge and walk my kayak in with a cart.

I can make it in my vehicle, but there's no reason to risk getting stuck. The city put in bar gate a couple years ago to restrict vehicle entry. It had become the locale area for 4x4 vehicle to test their limits. It's open now, but I don't want to do anything to cause the city to make the decision to keep everyone out.

I've always wondered how the fish get in there?

The swamp on the North side connects to the TennesseeRiver during extreme floods, maybe once every three or four years. That's all it takes for a few fish to get in andestablish a reproducing population if it doesn't go dry in the summer. Thesepits are 14 or 15 feet deep in some locations. Once the pits were abandoned bythe brick company the water was no longer being pumping out, they never go dryagain.

I know I've fished it before and always wondered that and with crappie reproducing like they do the population should stay pretty high
