Wow! Cool video! Just think the motor and electronics on that boat cost twice what the actual boat cost. . . I am going to have to win the lottery lol

I do have the gateway with my HDS. One thing I wish it would do, and I've heard it may be coming, is to select a multiple point route on your HDS screen. Right now, you can go to the cursor, a waypoint, or select a preexisting trail. It would be real nice to look at the map and pick a route along, say a 15' drop off etc.

Both Motorguide and MinnKota digital models (variable speed) have power supplying the control board the entire time it is connected to the batteries. The switches controls the power going to the motor from the control board. Because they are constantly drawing power at the control board, this means charge voltage is going into the control board if the trolling motor circuit is not disconnected. As you know, battery voltage and charge voltage is at two different rate, with the charge voltage being a higher rate. This could damage the control board.

Terrova manual listed several MK models w/i-Pilot that draw power when off and cautioned that it would drain the batt; the Terrova wasn't one of the listed models.

    From the i-Pilot manual:
The i-Pilot will turn on whenever the trolling motor has power. For the Terrova and Riptide ST motors this is when the green system ready light is on. For Power Drive V2 and Riptide SP motors this is whenever the motor is connected to power.

*For this reason it is very important to disconnect a Power Drive V2 or Riptide Sp from power when not in use or battery drain will occur.

I would imagine that this holds true to any TM that has GPS on it as well.

Had my Xi5 out once and really like it. But didn't realize I'd have to give up my downscan transducer and have to mount the Hydrowave on the transom instead of on the trolling motor. Problem is the power cord would have to be loose mounted vs zip tied along the TM shaft. It'd get hung up on submerged limbs too often to mess with. Life's full of trade-offs.

I knew that when I got mine. Most folks say to run it up the curley cord. I mounted mine on the TM but immediately took it off as I didn't like the looks of it. I'm using the built in transducer and it works great (for 2D only.) If I decide I want the downscan I'll just get the transducer mount that Nip had a thread on. It looks like a great mount but I usually only use 2D up front so probably won't do that.

Since I purchased the motor last summer twice now I went to the garage just to see I forgot to unplug my trolling motor while charging the batteries. I finally made me a reminder I zip tied to the onboard charge extension cord. I have forgotten since then.

You guys have had these Xi5s for awhile now, are they as good as they advertise? Is there any problems with battery life when using anchor mode? Looking to buy one if I can get some positive feedback. Thanks

No problems at all. Battery life, no problem. I've set in anchor mode on some days for I would guess a total of 8 hours and the battery light has never changed color. These days will also include some trolling around with it. In reviews I read before buying it, the lack of battery usage was a selling point several mentioned. Don't wait, go get one. You will be glad you did.
