    Default Xi5

I've had a new Motorguide Xi5 laying on the garage floor for about a week and I finally waded thru some other projects I've had and put it on the boat today. It's a 24v 80lb 60" shaft with Pinpoint gps and (in the driveway) appears to be very quiet and smooth. I even put my hearing aids in and turned them up but it wasn't noisy at all. I have one more project in the morning but hopefully I'll get it out on one of the local lakes tomorrow and put it thru it's paces. Got my fingers crossed concerning the anchor mode. I'm not much of a troller but do some strolling so I think that part will be fine.

I'm looking forward to trying it out.

Nice, glad you got it installed, give us a report after you put it on the water.

Funny, I've had a Xi5 in the shop for a week also, mounted it today. Gotta finish the 24v conversion tomorrow, and get her on the lake.

Got one when they came out. No complaints and no problems. Just make sure you unplug when charging your batteries.

Did you order the cable to connect it to your HDS 9?

Thats one expensive gateway, $ 250. I'm getting one free. If you buy a Xi5 and a HDS, you get if for free, a $50 rebate, and another $200 rebate on the HDS Touch w/ SSI Bundle.

Looks pretty cool, being able to run the TM and set routes from the HDS.

Well, my morning project lasted a little longer than expected but I did manage to get out on Draper for 3 hours this afternoon. I like it! It was very quiet and smooth moving - no herky, jerky like my last Motorguide remote. All the features worked very well. Unfortunately, we had a 5mph or less day so I didn't get to see how it works with the normal Oklahoma 20+ mph. The anchor worked great and the jog feature was a pleasant surprise. The foot control was the best I have ever used. I'll use it up front primarily and the hand remote from the rear of the boat. I hope to get on the water more now so I can play with it and find out how it does in the wind. There was a slight learning curve with it. You don't want to be moving very fast when you hit the anchor button! Almost got to try out my new ladder! lol

Craig I don't plan on doing that. I'm an old simple Geezer fisherman and I don't need all the gizmos for my style fishing. My primary interest was in the anchor feature and being able to operate the TM from the rear of the boat and the hand remote does that very well.

The GPS gets a lock very fast because it locks on 4 satellites - then continues to improve locations as it picks up more. I'm very pleased so far.

Why do you have to unplug to charge?

Cannot wait to get one but it's in the dream phase for me. Careful where you are standing when using the remote. Update us when you get it in a good wind.

That's what I find cool about it besides a good anchoring system. Enjoy the HDS and holler if you have a question. Now you can "Touch yourself" with confidence!
