OK. Will try that also. I hate it had to mess up right before I took vacation from work to go on a fishing trip. Looks like I may have to put it off til I find the problem.

If it's turning left to right but not engaging the prop, it probably needs a $120 control board. Easy fix.

If the string was black looking, then the seal is damaged.

When I cut the fishing line out I don't remember any of it being black looking.

did you take the prop off and make sure you got all the line out. that was my problem about 5 weeks ago when I got a troutline tangled in mine. I though I had it all when I cut some out, but when I finally took the prop off, there was at least twice as much as I had cut off still tangled. once I got it out, smooth sailing again

yes I couldn't see any line from outside the prop but was hoping that was the problem. So when I took off the prop and seen the line and thought I had fixed the problem but apparently not.

If all checks out, do what Bill said. Trolling motors will run full of water till the brush spring breaks. Springs give way to rust.

Thanks for all the advice. It is fixed. I feel stupid. I hooked up the foot control and it worked then I hooked up the remote and it also worked. Must have just been a bad connection. Thankful it wasn't anything major.
