Nice ties
Nice skip. What color blue is that on you heads, second pic.
Very nice Skip.I consider one of the fore fathers of jig tying.
If I dont ask its my fault for not knowing
These are great.
Do all use the V cut in some way?
How many hackle tips per jig?
Thanks,
Rookie
Have to remember I have a ton of V's and I use to put just 2 V's and one tip, but started using 3 V's and just like it a little better and think that stuff all moves in the water. I also have used Salt Water Neck hackle for at least 9 years so have had a lot of long feathers. I cut some this week that I bet each one gave me 6 or 7 V's so lots left over to stash. I keep every color in a Qt. ziplock and I keep all the V's in with the feathers I am working with in that bag. I also keep a sandwich ziplock with the part of the feather after the V's are cut off. I don't mind leaving a little V type stuff on that end. That end can also make a tail of you want! So I save them too. I would bet most of the Slab Daddy jigs I have seen were just that left over piece of the feather.
also, no not everyone uses the tip thing and some just use 2 tips, this was just something I came up with for me to tie like I wanted to tie. Not that I invented that, just figured it out on my own to tie a tail like I do. I like it better and didn't like the 2 tip way. I am just really piticular about what my tying looks like and how it holds up.

Skip, I know you have discussed this before, but how do you get the tips to always point down , giving that clean look? They seem to want to roll on me when I start wrapping my hackles. I don't like them curved to the sides.
I have done so many they just come out close usually, but I alwayse make sure half way through my wraps. I hold it a little to my side to start, then I start wraps at the head and stop at my stopping point, this is where I make it right. However every once in a while at that point when I first see how it's doing it may be too much out of line for me and if it is i will take warps off and start over! At that stopping point you can grab the stem and thread with some forceps and turn it a little either direction. The pinch the heck out of the wraps and stem so when you start back to the head it stays put.
i know that if I didn't care I could tie a lot more jigs per hour, but I will not tolerate my jig looking like what some would if I just went for speed. Each is special in my eyes and even though I always see warts on jigs I tie, it's just because I tied it and no one else will usually notice anything. I suppose that I am a bit on the perfectionist side of doing things like this, LOL!

I should order a few just to study them. As before, a pic is worth 1000 words
