I'm just guessing, but the lake has come up a couple feet the last few days. Moving water=quicker thaw. I'm going to bet she's wide open by next weekend.

With the temps getting in the 50s and 60s next week how long will it take for the lake to thaw out? Don't know how thick the ice got down there so was just wondering! Saw some pics last week with the lake 100% froze over! With the warmer temps Coming I'm ready to get out!!

Rivers, creeks, streams are very muddy, yucky, right now with the rain/snow and minor thawing we have had,,,and up and looks like they will stay that way for a while. Early Spring time is always messy. Ice on rivers tho,,is melting super fast and opening up quick too. Thaw has begun and after tomorrow,,,no stopping it.

I am sure it will be completely open this weekend after another 2-3 inches of rain tonight and Friday if it is not already. The only problem is going to be how dirty and how much debris is in the lake for being up for the first time of the year. Still supposed to be nice starting Saturday afternoon and all day Sunday to get out and scratch that long Winter itch though.
Lots of small lakes and ponds still are ice covered 25 miles north of Patoka. Hwy 450 at Williams is flooded by the East Fork of the White River now, and due to still come up 3 more feet. Watch out for French Lick Creek and Lost River at French Lick. They are due to come up 3-5 more ft not counting this rain. Might flood highways out with incoming rain and you would have to come up from the south or down 231 to Jasper then across to south end of lake. Just have to keep a eye on this incoming rain. We still have snow/ice on northern slopes of hills melting as well, but could all be gone in 24-36 hrs. If your not on pavement or concrete, your in mud with your vehicle/boat trailer. Good luck. Flash Flood Watch out for Bedford, IN south, as well as Areal Flood Watch for entire southern Indiana including Patoka for this weekend by US Weather Bureau. I just got my jon boat out of snow, untarped and backed in my heated garage to clean up and rig but will be in no hurry due to this uncooperative weather and water conditions.
