    Default New Vise Advice...

I am looking into possibly upgrading my vise. My current one is an el-cheapo Cabelas one and frankly is leaving a lot to be desired.
I am not sure I need a rotary vise, but I figure I would rather buy one and not need it instead of need it and not have it. I know next to nothing about any of the brands. I have been cruising ebay and have seen stuff all over the board. I am thinking some of the Regal and Peak Models look nice...

Not sure of my budget, probably $100-ish...but likely spend a little more for quality and made in USA
I wouldn't mind a gently used one either if anyone has one needing a new home

    Thanks in advance!

Also looking at the Anvil Apex and the Griffin Odyssey Spider. Both seem to be what I am kind of looking for and right in my price range.

Peak makes a fine vise and the best in its price range. Also though some of the Griffins are good like the Mongoose and Renzetti are very good, but cost a good bit more. I use a Nor-Vise, but they are even more costly.

it depends on what you want, but I use the rotary function on every tie! Even if it's just where I place my glue. I like being able to see all side as I tie if I feel the need to look from the bottom or what ever. Some chenille actually seems to wrap easier if the vise does the wrapping, but I do not do that much. I do use my Nor to spin the thread base on so I don't have to use my shoulder or arm to wrap it.

Also the machine work they do at Peak is awesome! I do believe they are totally made in the USA and lifetime warranty!

Skip posted this a year or so ago and I must say that it has a ton of useful information in it for someone wanting to buy a new vice.

Fly Tying Vises In-Depth Review by Fly Fish Ohio!

I myself love my Regal, I also like Shawn and Misty's at Crappie Assassin's Peak Vices. I have also played with a an Apex before and loved it.

Since you are already an established jig tier and we know that you are going to stick to it, spend the money on the bells and whistles that you want. I am actually thinking of dropping the coin on a Peak just to have the rotating ability that I lack on my Regal.

    Good luck,

    Bobo

After looking at stuff and reading reviews, I think the Anvil Apex is the front runner as of now. Thanks again guys!
