Thread: Artificial hair?

Well not sure what your doing with it, but around halloween the stores like Walmart and other like Hobby Lobby will have the wigs for that, but think it's probably the same materials they are made out of. If it's for tying there are lots of different kinds of hair.

Of course there is also Ice Dub Minnow Back Shimmer Fringe, Ice Dub Shimmer Fringe, Pseudo Hair, Pseudo Marabou, Angel Hair, oh heck let me just link a shop with plenty to look at....
Synthetic Fly Tying Materials, Hair & Fibers | J. Stockard

Lots of variation in synthetic hair. I feel the stuff being sold/marketed as fly tying materials is a better quality and seems to work well, The craft store stuff is sometimes OK and sometimes useless. My local hobby lobby will not let me dip it in water to see if its worth buying.

Same trouble with buying the feathers from them! Like they have some great looking boa's, but the dye is not one that will stay and will come off! Not worth anything then. I have a couple I bought and they still hang in this room not being used, LOL! You can get some foam for flies from them and a few other things, but best buy tying stuff that is for fly/jig tying!

Darice craft fur is okay to use but more often than not you have to have them order anything other than brown, black and white. If you ever see something labeled Targus Foxx fur/Dougs Bugs fur GET IT!!!!!!! It is really nice stuff!!! and hard to find. I actually like it better than the Hairline which is really nice stuff. I'll post a couple of pics of it tonight.

I used to like the Punisher Craft hair but it seems to have a whole lot more underfur in it now. If you're ever yard saleing or at a flea market and you see the Troll dolls with the different hair colors buy them if you can get a good price on them - the hair is really good to tie with.

I'm makin hair jigs. Instead of Bucktail I wanted something for use with smaller jigs than my walleye stuff to use for crappie.
I would think the synthetic hair would be much better easier to control on smaller jigs for crappie.

Craft 2000,or any craft store,I've seen several colors.

Don't overlook the cross-cut zonker strips, tails from arctic fox, red fox and coyote make great jigs also. Grizzly bear makes really nice small jigs


Craft fur makes nice jigs but there are so many different natural hair materials that make really nice ones too.
