I fish Santee Cooper 95% of the time and in these lakes fish 3lbs are not uncommon. Years ago they were around every stump (cypress tree). I will hunt up some pictures from the 70's of my father and uncles with stringers full of big fish. I was born in 70, and have caught plenty over 3lbs. My personal best is is 4lb 2oz weighed on a meat scale at an old store in Rosinville (Cross road of the world)! That was in 1981. I quit fishing for 7yrs after my father passed, but I am finally getting my boat right and getting some time to fish. I haven't caught one that big since I started back fishing a couple of years ago, but have caught some close.
Look for some articles online from Whitey Outlaw or Kevin Davis, they fished Santee back in the day and will say the same thing about how good the fishing was back then. Its no wear close to what it use to be, but it is making a strong come back.

None. Caught an 18 1/2" white not too too long ago. Was shy of 2 1/2 lbs. Diff genetics. More stocky blacks on tree tops on the river system here. Dont hurt my feelings a bit.

I've never caught a three pounder, if I ever do I'll have it mounted. My biggest was 2.5#, anything over 1.5# I turn back.

You know you can't throw out a claim like that without pictures. Let's see 'em.

I've never caught one and never seen one live. I got to net a 2.87 that my wife caught. I saw a 2.95 that a friend caught. Talked to several bass fisherman over the years and they all say they catch and release 3lbrs all time while bass fishing. Got to see a 2.5 lber that one of the bass fishermen had. It was about 12 1/2 inches long.

My partner passed away about 4yrs ago and he had cought a total of 5 3lb crappie and had all of them mounted. I was in the boat with him back in 1985 when he cought 2 of them back to back. Now, I have never cought a 3lb crappie and I cannot afford to catch one either because if I do I'll have a heart attack.
