I would almost rather go with a wired in secondary hook set up like a trailer hook instead of one so close to the body. I was playing around with the idea a few weeks ago, I didn't get very far but here is what I cam up with.

It is a bit different, it is almost like a bait that is used for either Salt Water fishing or stripped Bass. It is just an idea though. If you are getting short strikes something like this may fix your problem. BTW the trailer hook, is a spinner / skirt bait hook. This is a 1/4 ounce head and both the hooks are pretty good size.

That might work. But maybe a smaller trailer hook. And shortening up the wire a bit. And reversing the direction of the trailer hook to where it is down instead of up. I know it will get hung up easier but that's ok. Putting a black hook on the jig. And a red trailer hook. What would you charge me to build me some of those with a collar? With painted heads?

Why not a stinger hook like we use on a spinner bait for bass ? legal ? I don't know .

If the jig isn't working why have more made?? If you are getting short hits why not use a single hook jig with a shorter tail. Just wondering,

Why not use a trailer hook like the bass guys do. The second hook like the first op pic could be tied in with fine wire and the eye cut off. Will make one tonight when I get to my stuff.

I just don't think extra hooks are needed for crappie. Now Blue Gills do short strike a lot, but not sure crappie do, but I would just use a 1/32 Oz Blakemore Roadrunner with Marabou tail. That is a true 1/32 Oz head and will offer a small profile and small hook, but it works! Other than that maybe a Kip Tail jig since it is usually pretty short or can be and they do love that stuff! I sure would just try a shorter jig and then a shorter tail, but wouldn't cut tail first!

I know most probably don't remember, but Blue Fox use to make a killer little jig and came in several colors, but all had a Nickel Plated head and a very short skirt type material and tiny hook so the jig was really short and I have some in 1/32 and some in 1/16, both are killer and I use to long line troll them and do really well. I need to try them again this year. However I am sad to say they do not make it any longer. Maybe I will take a pic this afternoon to post one to show!

I made these last year for long lining the fish were short striking the jigs and I was having trouble hooking up

If you are concerned about short strikes take I look at this. I tied up some and they are pretty slick. Down here we have to be careful with the rules.
