    It went something like this:

The little known legend of Talquin Maggie…….Lake Taquin was made in the late 1920's to supply hydroelectric power to the surrounding areas. It was named for the cities the lake lies between, Tallahassee and Quincy. Lake Talquin was formed by the construction of the Jackson Bluff Dam. The abundance of dead trees and stumps scattered about are the reminders of a rich floodplain forest that covered the area before the lake was formed. In addition to flooding the forest, they also flooded many homes. One of which belonged to an old lady named Maggie, who later became the subject of the legend of Talquin Maggie. Maggie refused to vacate her homestead even though plans were to flood the valley. Efforts were made to forcibly remove her but all attempts failed. Finally Maggie hid out in the woods and eluded the authorities for weeks until they thought she had left the area and they proceeded with the flooding. Several months later a local logger found a book labeled MAGGIE’S JOURNAL. After reading it he took it to the authorities. It seems that Maggie had returned to her home as the flooding began, and after making her last entry in her journal, she tied herself to the tallest oak tree she could find and to this day that’s where Maggie rests. The legend is, if you fish anywhere near that tree you will hear a woman’s voice saying “ dem’ Monroe boys are gonna kick your butts”

    But there are 2 Versions:

As Paul Harvey would say...And now for the Rest of the Story.... SpeckleTater didn't finish it all...The legend is, if you fish anywhere near that tree you will hear a woman’s voice saying “ dem’ Monroe boys are gonna kick your butts iffin they find out how much bigger Talquins fish are compared to theirs....Then one day Ole TnT and Hooker was running from Rawhide and we ran up on Chuck Auten doing what we thought was "meditating", but he was actually talking to Talquin Maggie. We were all amazed when she told us this... "Too much time has passed and it is time that those Moronians were taught a lesson. Let all of the state know what Talquin Maggie has known from the beginning. My spirit will be with you all on March 10, 2012. After "dem" boyz go home with their tails tucked between their legs, then I will finally be at peace with my soul"........We aint seen or heard from her since, but Hooker is headed down this weekend to that old tall oak tree down by Sally Creek to see if he can communicate with her one more time before next Saturday......And now you know The Rest of the Story!!!!
