    Default Humminbird transducer question

I have a hb 565 and hb 717. A question I have is do humminbird transducers get weak over a certain time or do the fish finders. Seems like they were a lot stronger signals when they were newer. Both fish finders say they test ok when in the test mode. What do you think. Thanks for any information.

Xducer piezoes can wear over time ... (Piezoes physically vibrate ...and vibration can cause wear) ...

Have you tried upping the sensitivity setting ...??

Can you do a Restore Default ...??

rnvinc, I have tried some by upping the sensitivity and have restored default quite a few times. I have been trying to see fish angles, jigs, and could not so I wind up going to default again and again and just looking at fish symbols. They tell me that fish symbols are not hardly ever real fish. I have read were the hb 565 is supposed to be able to see jigs below the boat.

I know some of ya'll had one of these Humminbird 565 or 717 with 60° - 20° transducers at one time or the other I just need to know am I just spinning my wheels with these things or not. I know they want show anything like the new expensive ones do . But am I just not setting the settings right or what. I just don't want to spend all my time on the water fooling with ff instead of fishing . Thanks for any information or just what do you think.

Try these ...(if available in the menu)

*200kHz only (unit should scroll faster at 200kHz only) ...
*Noise filter = Off (unless there is interference that needs filtering) ...
*Surface clutter = as high as you can stand it (higher shows more clutter) ...
*Sensitivity = as high as you can stand it (higher shows more clutter) ...
    *Chart Speed = 10

Can you post some pix of the screen you are seeing ...??

I will take some pictures next time out on water. Cold now but I will try what you told me to do just as soon as I can get back on the water and get back with you thanks for the information and any other information you can give me.

Try cross-testing with someone else that is running a Humminbird unit that has the 200/83kHz 2D sonar (which is most of our units). This will show where the problem is: unit or transducer.

Thanks for the ideas on how to see fish arches and how to trouble shoot my fish finders. I don't think it is the transducer as I have one on the trolling motor and one on the back of the boat and they do seem to work. I think I was setting some of the setting the wrong way. I was going lower on surface clutter instead of higher and was not going high enough on sensitivity and chart speed. I also needed to use inverse instead of structure. I have not been able to get back out on the water yet, but as soon as I can I am going to try every thing ya'll told me and thanks again. I also found this on the humminbird web site it may help me and others here is the web site: http://www.humminbird.com/Category/S...AQ/FishArches/

Ok it warmed up today got back out on the lake and played around with my fish finders. You all were right thats what it was I cut off the little fishes and set it like you all said and I am seeing a lot more. May take more time to learn those fish arches though. But I do see my fish habitat a lot better and I do see some slight arches and small lines. Seen some big globs suspended above the bottom I am thinking they may be shad. If I run into more problems I know were to find the answers here at crappie.com. Just wanted to tell all of you thanks for the help. Be safe and good luck fishing.
