It is, I tried it out the other day and it worked pretty well. Still think there are better options out there, but it's all I had handy.

I do a lot of fishing with a slip cork, but I really don't like it when the fishing is hot and my knot keeps coming undone. I have a couple old rolls of braid I'll try that out.

Mo I never use corks but when I was kid seems like we used a bead and a toothpick or maybe it was a rubber band not sure.

I've done it with mono knots above a small bead, there are tons of ways to do it. Just saw this rig online they were making with string and coffee stirrers.

I usually tie the knot on the water, but this may save some time. I don't fish em much but may as well give something new a try.

Never had a prob with store bought ones, i got enough to last for yrs, i even use one a few inches above the split shot, so if i hang up i dont lose anything except the hook and weight.

I use the little rubber ones from BPS. They are small enough they slip through guides good and if I take the float off I just leave the stop on there. I will use it for a depth indicator when not fishing the float.
