Auto Chart was the main reason I was looking at the Onix series, but I went with an 1199. I'm thinking about trying the card this spring, but am also looking for some user input before I go for it.

In the same boat, I have a 1199 up front, I need to add another unit by the console. Can't decide should I get a 999 or a Onix ? That's a lot green , I like to fish new waters so a unit at the console is a must , hopefully I'll have it figured out by the time I get my tax return lol![]()

Same boat, well over 100+ lakes in my county that are not on map cards. Would be fun to find some new hot spots! I got the 1199 connected with the iPilot Link and it really is a dream. Shame the Onix lacks compatibility with other product lines. Interesting that the programming allows it to network with the MK but not "legacy" units' NICs...wonder what the technical reason is behind it.

I didn't know that , well the Onix is out then . I want to be able to share unit to unit . Guess I'll go with a 999 then put it up front move the 1199 to the console, that way I won't have to change the ducer on the ipilot. Then buy the Auto chart pro Thanks buddy

If the Onix could have been networked to the 898 I already had, would of got it no question, but I am more than happy with the 1199. I got it at the helm and the 898 back by the motor since I mostly longline. They are networked and share the 1 transducer and it all works great. It's interesting being able to play with the output on 2 different units and see the picture comparison.
I would suggest putting the 1199 wherever you would get most face time with it.

I've been making maps for about 6 months now and it's taken a lot of time (both on the water and behind the computer), but it has been worth it.
I have a Navionics card and it has been great and I still continue to use it in areas I haven't mapped, but the AutoChart map I've made has much more detail. Below is a comparison I've put together between Navionics, Navionics SonarCharts, and AutoChart from a few points I've mapped.
I've fished the point on top, but never fished the bottom point much because it doesn't look as good on the Navionics as what I mapped.
The only thing I wish you could do if overlay the two. I have a 998 and I believe you can do this on the ONIX which I will be getting. In most cases there isn't much difference in the maps, but I have found spots on my map that aren't on the Navionics and I have caught a ton of fish of them.
The last thing I will say is the program is not easy to use. I think I've gotten it down, but you have to fix false readings and areas you've lost GPS signal. It has been worth the money though.
