Nice catch Jimmy, excellent picture of the fog. I wouldn't think the braid has anything to do with the rod tip breaking off.

I have had the same problem and I use mono seems to be with the IM6 graphite rods. I'm afraid to lift fish in the boat anymore? Also have Shakespeare bass pistol grip rods that are IM6 at 5.5' and have broken at least 6-8 in the last 3 years. They are cheap rods so no big $ loss but hard to find old style "true pistol grip" anymore. No problem with B&M but same problem with the Academy Shakespeare trigger-spin crappie combo rig! ~~<*{{{{<<

I remember breaking two on the same day first of the yr. I think the problem that day was it was in the 20's and my guides were freezing. The line was sticking in the guides changing the way the weight of a fish is loaded on the pole. I would stick it in the water to thaw but it wouldn't last long. I'm thankful I don't have that problem very often. Broke one at dbone bout two months ago as well.
20Watt, I don't think it is the braid. I have pretty much fish braid exclusively for the last 3-4 years and the only rod broken in my boat was a BnM pole that my wife broke when she hung the jig on a stump and put too much pressure on it. I have never broken any of my Wally Marshall poles, even with the braid.

Great catch 20. Maybe you should order a couple or 3 tips to save on shipping and keep the spares in the boat. I've broke 3 tips in the past 2 yrs. I use 3 different kinds of poles and have a spare for each.
Until I joined c.c I had always use fly rods. I have a 30 yr old one, 2 about 15 yrs old and a 10 year old one. Never broke a tip. Used them mostly for vertical jigging. The pole companies have given up back bone for weight.
