Thread: Large Hook Jig Question

I have seen a lot of the Green Carp guys use those on small finess worms. I use big hooks because the lakes I fish have a 12 inch limit so your constantly fishing for bigger fish and I use a lot of bigger plastics. 2 1/2 to 3 inch so I need the wider gap. I pour my 1/16 with #1 the 1/8 ball with 1/0 and my 1/8 poney's with both a 1/0 and 2/0 all sickles. Them big crappie have no problem getting all that in their mouth.

Those look good! Are the heads just clear coated or is that a silver powder coat?

I'm not that big of a fan of big hooks. You can catch a big fish on a small hook, but you can't catch small fish on a big hook most of the time. That being said, i think those would work well. Great ties

Great looking jigs. I like a smaller hook on the 1/32 on a hand tied jig but if using plastic I like a bigger hook.

Me too, but I thought I would spin some up just because they were so cheap. I think they turned out ok.

The jig heads are silver powder coated I think, they were finished when I got them.

I like big hooks and have caught plenty of aquarium size crappie on them . On Barkley and KY lakes crappie must be 10" to keep so other than bluegills or redears I see no reason for me to use small hooks.

I agree with justinp61, I prefer a larger hook. It seems like I get better hook sets that way, even with a 1/32 oz. I really like the 1/32 oz jigs when the crappie are lethargic and you have to show it to em slow.
