Yes frozen in water as well, but when talking to some people who fish our trout pond here in Oklahoma, they say no more then a few months. I was told it's best to just use as chum now!

I would chum those trout in my belly!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I mean Yum, Yum!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
They don't get real good until they age a half a year! Half a year is nothing if in water or vacuum packed.
The reason I have a standup freezer ,easier to organize. I try to keep the older ones given away. But they are still fine like everyone said in my opinion.

We eat frozen trout fillets a year old that have been froze in water taste great!
Trout are an oily fish, crappie are not. Probably why some people say they don't keep long term in the freezer. I've heard similar things about salt water fish like croaker and bluefish, but then again, you buy frozen salmon all the time and they are just big trout. If you see a blood line or brown flesh down the middle cut it out as that is where most of the oils are anyway, and it actually cuts out easier after freezing (I know from white bass and croaker).
