Randy....I use 12 and 14 ft. B and M PST's and it works fine....they bow a little but not bad.....the bow is a good thing though because you can read your crankbait better....you can tell if your crank is fouled and not running right, and you can better tell when a fish hits it.

those are sweet!! quick question for yall. if ur weight is 10 foot down, how much below the weight will the crank be?? did that make sense??
Any man can be a father, but it takes a real man to be a DAD!!
Depends on the bait and the leader. I run 3 foot leaders and with an Arkie I figure it is about the same maybe a litlle deeper. With a 300 bandit I figure about a foot deeper. Think about your rod tip with just the crank on you line, let out 3 feet of line and put the bait over the side with the rod tip rite at the water, this will give you a real good idea of where the bait is gonna run in relation to your weight.

When you buy the weights from Scott he usually sends a chart with them explaining how to figure depth.

Thanks "G'' and Rees For fielding the questions that the guys and myself have. I haven't been crank baiting for long and I don't want to give out some miss information due to lack of experience.
I might need to start a new topic on this.
When running planer boards what would be the best speed to start with?
Planer boards.... you run the same speed you do pulling or pushing cranks.....its still the same....only difference is the boards let you get the cranks out further from the boat and you can cover a wider area thus more water with them. I usually start at 1.6 and go from there....1.8 mph seems to be the best speed for me....but there are times if the bite is slow that speeding up will help and I have caught fish a 2 mph to 2.2 mph.
