Lake Tarpon results part 3 of 3 part review on various night fishing moon phases at
Lk Tarpon August 18th, (Last Quarter)

Started 8:40pm same time as previous 2
Same locastion, equipment, lighting system, set up depths.
Water temp 88.6 surface - very little wind (problem almost all night)
varied from 3.5 wnw to 6.9 wsw.. (where we were, west side of lake, almost
no movement - hence the "flying varmits" hammered us continously throughout night
till 2:45am when wind picked up and slight ripple on water, fishing catch rate also
    improved)
Four (4) teams worked the area within 1/2 mi of each other at times. Insects were
biggest problem of evening with very little wind.
    Bill Bercaw / Ted Harry 7:30pm - 1:30am
    Dave Dirt 6:30pm - 10:00 pm
    Stanley & Jackie West 7:30pm - 10:30pm
    Harold McGhee / Buddy Dobson 7:30pm - 3:45 am............

No signaific change of catch rate based on major - minor fishing times.
No noticable change regarding high vs low tides (Lake Tarpon being close to Gulf
and damed man made freshwater 2,500 acre impoundment.

When barametric pressure dropped below the 30's, bite picked up slightly.
from 2 - 4am pressure was 29:99 and better quality of fish were caught
Heavy concentration of "bait fish" presence around lights facing into water from boat
along with shad population going crazy on surface most of night - Smaller spec's
were caught in 5 - 8.5' depth over 12.8 - 13.8' water. Larger were in the 10' depth
Fish were found in grassy bottom, pocket holes with varations of 1 - 2 ft. off humps
    and old, old brush piles
Fish preferred med. size minnows vs larger or small.
Lively minnows caught more than almost dead or dieing (change baits often)
    Harold & Buddy caught

    44 keeper spec's 10-12" threw back 7.
    19 bull size bull-gills " " 12
    Additional throw backs -
    2 - bass 1 - 3 lb range
    4 - cats 1/2 - 2 lb range

Are you using all above water lights? No starfires or big greenies?

The picture of pontoon with lights is that of Stanley West. When he gets to
place he is going to fish - the lower lights do decend and point down.

Had tried Green lights few years back and they didn't seen to improve rate for me. Some
times i think that sound waves will draw fish for curious look see.

Amen Dan, used to do lot night fishing in "strip pits" down by Coal City & Shakamak
State Park back in the 80's. Lake just outside of Washington, In was always great
place for big Gills & Nice Crappie.
    (I'm from Plainfield area originally)
