Just my 2 cents. All the brands you talk about are made by refineries to the same specs. Yam, Merc and the other outboard companies do not make it. They just market it with their name on it to make more money. Make sure it's TCW-3 like speck said. I used Yam oil in my merc for years, because my BIL could get it for me at a good price. He sold boats for 30 yrs.

I've been runnin the merc synthetic is quicksilver synthetic the same runnin a 225 optimax

To have a TCW-3 rating, it must be compatible to mix with all brands of TCW-3 rated 2 stroke oil. The guy I bought my boat from only ran AmsOil in it. I know what you mean on the Amsoil. I'm still running it in the Nitro I bought from Yikes. But paying thru the nose to do so. Thinking about switching back to the Quicksilver which I ran in all the other Mercury's that I've owned. Did try the Pennzoil in an old 9.9 that I used to have and noticed it became hard to start after time. Switched back to the Quicksilver and solved the problem.

Thanks to all, I can get Quicksilver here in town. Would it hurt to run some Yamalube in the motor along with Quicksilver ? Brother in sells Yamalube at Lake Hill and if I can still get at my cost when I worked there, it should be less than the QS that I can buy here.

I was about to ask the same question. I have a Nissan 2-stroke. The manual cautions against mixing oil. Do you think it's because it came filled with the expensive Nissan oil and they want you to keep buying it?

By the way, I changed to Quicksilver and haven't had any problems that I know of although I have noticed it smoking a bit more than with the Nissan oil.
