    Default Oconee Suggestions?

Just got a pontoon boat and would like to take the family (inlaws) out to Oconee. Any suggestions on which ramp and location I should try. Not doing any spider rig type fishing. More likely to drop a minnow down and see if there are any takers. Also, we will most likely be fishing during the evenings. We went out twice and kept 3 catfish. I was more interested in crappie and white bass/hybrid. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for any response.

Hi ViTek. Welcome to the forum. We are in that time of year on Oconee when the crappie will be hanging around the submerged timber all over the lake. If you get a Lake Oconee map these areas are marked by stars on the map called fish attractors. These attractors are actually timber the engineers left standing when the lake was flooded. Just about everyone you find on the map, that is in the middle of the lake, WILL have crappie on them. Drop your minnows down to them and hang on. Good electronics is very important so you can distinguish if the fish are hanging around a certain tree. A lot of this submerged timber can be several acres and if the GPS points on the map don't put you right on it, just know they are really close by and if you just troll around those numbers you will find it. My guess is the GPS coordinates back in the late 70's were not as accurate as they are now, but I have found out that if it says there are attractors there, they certainly are there. Good luck and let us know if we can help ya

Thanks for all the responses. I will definitely need to get a lake map and look for some timbers.

BigFishHeads, Are you the same bigfishhead with the vidoes posted on youtube? If you are, you made fishing Oconee more exciting with all the action your boat had.
