    Default Camryn and I

I'm lucky this week to have my Granddaughter in for our yearly visit. Camryn is 9 and will turn in early October. We had a real good time last year on Woods trolling up many Crappie and a few bass to add to the day. This year was no different and midday Sunday found us slamming the fish just like it had been scheduled. We kept enough to make a good dinner, 7 or 8, and headed to the house.
We arrived at Rock Creek ramp, post biscuit, at about 8 and stayed til just after 2. No Crappie were found today, but didn't we have a time. Bass and stripe(You had any doubt?) bluegill kept us busy today while Cam worked on her skills. We shot docks and cast jigs and beetle spins and trolled some later as we headed to the ramp. Cam connected with a nice 2lb LMB on a Beetle spin that I got to be net boy on, 100% on her own. Trees and hangups were minimal, those skills are coming right along. At one point she cast up on a shallow rock ledge and as her assassin hit the water I saw a big LMB spin toward her bait, and he ate it. Every bit of 4 to 5 lbs on a 4lb ultralight, and she never got it under control. She did everything right and listened to coaching and did very well, it just wasn't meant to be. The fish went thru the brush and around a corner and came back, her reeling like mad. As he came back he went around a pretty thick branch that gave him the upper hand and he got the slack he needed to throw the hook. This all took about 25 or 30 seconds and I was and am quite proud of her. During the whole thing about 12 people were gathered on a retaining wall as they got ready for some boating, they got a real good show.
Some time later as we moved toward the loop, and many bluegill later, I had a small 'gill on the way to the boat when I noticed he had a trailer, a LMB, a large one. I dropped the rod tip and that was all it took, he ate my 'gill!! Once again 4lb test and a small hook I figured it wouldn't last long, but I got about 15 seconds of fight and got him close to the net once before he opened his mouth and said goodbye. In over 50 years that was a first. We were pretty tired and decided to troll some cranks as we headed back to the ramp. Zig-zagging across the channel one of the rods went down, and Camryn grabbed it out of the Hi-tek. "Papa, this feels pretty big" was what got my attention and as I turned around it rolled and I saw teeth. Walleye. For a few seconds before he rolled on the surface and he spit the hook and said goodbye, but not before my tastebuds stood up and said "Hello". I think he knew he would be invited to dinner. Not long after we were on the trailer and headed home, with this fat boy thoroughly bushed. I have a few day I have to work and I hope to get a little more time for just one more trip, I can't wait. I have some pics and video that I'll post later. Thanks for visiting with us today.....Skeet.

Nice report, and tons of fun for both of you.
    GO BIG ORANGE !

I meant to behave, but there were just way too many other options available at the time.

That girl is learning how to fish. She has a good teacher. No crappie is not a good sign but I would take a day like that anytime out. Catching fish is the main thing with kids. Thanks for the text. Always enjoy seeing good fish pics. Great job.

I've been sitting here all week waiting for the report. That little lady is fast on her way to becoming a fishing bum just like her grandpa. She's getting taught by one of the best.
