I'm all against genetic modification of anything, especially stuff we eat, and double that for our sacred crappie. I think God made them the way they are for a reason & we shouldn't mess with that. You can't put that genie back in the bottle once it's out. Just get the habitat to the point that they max out on their own natural potential and be happy to catch the heck out of em. Just my opinion.

Not " in the loop " on GM with animals, but as a farmer, i can tell you, we would be in a world of hurt without GM seeds such as Round-up ready beans and corn, especially the smaller to mid size farmers, it would cost so much to keep weeds and grasses down that you wouldnt be able to afford the end product.

Those DNA injected animals/plants are refered to as GMO's... Geneticaly Modified Organisms. There is not enough data to say they are safe or not safe in my opinion. I think waht you are refereing to in your original post is a breeding program to enhance growth in fish. The Aquaculture industry is doing that presently, but not with crappie that I know of. There is some work being done with triploid (sterile) crappie though. Mostly the breeding program is for fish that are grown on a farm, and the farmer is not going to be letting that fish go, just the offspring. The breeding programs are expensive, and long term projects.

Striper/whtie bass = Hybrid striped bass and depending on which cross, they are called sunshine (female white x male striper) or palmetto bass (male white x female striper)

The main problem with a breeding program for fish is the vast genetic diversity in them. For instance you take a cow over her life time and breed to the same bull. In more cases than not you will have a very similar crop of calves. Now you take one fish milk the eggs and fertize them with 1 male. The outcome will be very different. You may have 10% or less exhibiting the desirable characteristics and a 1000 brother and sisters that do not. This is what makes a quality breeding program for fish very difficult.

Then you would have to take the 90% and stock them in Poinsett (you would not want to spoil RCC) and take the quality fish and put them in Conway.

Rather see them spend the money they would spend on genetic modification on improving fisheries and habitat and stocking. Just my
My wife keeps saying I never listen to her....... or something like that!

Thanks Michael. As long as they still taste like crappie I think I can figure out what to do with the defective 90%
