Enjoyed the story Chris. I have just got into crappie fishing within the last four months. I would definitely say that I am hooked to the thump. My dad never fished much but now I take him every once in a while. I have tried to learn these skills by hard knocks. I can only hope that I can teach my son the love for the outdoors that I have for them.

Thanks for the story Chris and thanks to other people contributing also. I grew up bank fishing with my dad. We didn't own a boat until I was 14, but we still managed to catch a fish more often than not. I married a woman who liked to fish, but we really didn't go often, maybe 4 or 5 times a year when the bream got right. In 09', I decided to learn to "crappie fish" rather than just catching them by accident. Since Feb of 09, I've found out about crappie seasons, purple turbans, and dennimite. I've also learned new places to fish like, lake X, and lake Yawnoc and have even learned how to help our home lake to be better. All these things put together have allowed us to be do what we like to do, and that is catch a crappie. The hardest thing in our early stages of learning to crappie fish is keeping Carol out of the bream beds when they are right. It is much easier to do now than it was just a few years ago, but every once in awhile we just gotta get on the bank and get a bluegill fix.

It is amazing to me that there are people on here that consistently put fish in the boat seemingly anytime they are on the water and in any conditions. I have the greatest respect for those skills and Chris, I believe you to be one of these people. Thanks for sharing your story.

Some day I hope to be as good this fisherman who joined me in catching a few. He was not very talkative, but seemed to have a knack catching a few.

Thanks guys. As with any sport, fishing has a competitive nature to it. It is easy to get caught up in our accomplishments and forget about the people and circumstances that led us to where we are. Nobody got to where they are on their own. If they tell you they did, they are lying. I thank God every day for the blessings that I dont deserve, and the love that I certainly didnt earn.

Haha, that was a fluke. You tried to drown him right off the bat, and it just went downhill from there!!
