Default Oklahoma Firefighters Burn Camp Aug 9th. NEED HELP PLEASE!!!!!!

Hey guys, as most of you know last year in July I was involved in a accident involving fire and hot grease, and although my injuries were minor compared to most, I had to spend a lot of time at the Burn Center. During that time I built up a close relationship with some of the staff. One happens to be heavily involved in the Oklahoma Firefighters Burn Camp. She contacted me this morning and asked if I would be willing to help out with this years annual fishing event. The organizer for the event is no longer taking part in it, and so they are struggling to find volunteers to make this fishing event a success. I have volunteered my time to help out but we are starting basically from ground zero.

A little about the fishing event, it is on Lake Hudson at the Lake Shore R.V. Park in Salina, Oklahoma on Aug 9th, 2014. It will start fairly early (i think around 530am with a free breakfast) and we can end around 1 if we all decide to do so. The kids have a tendency to get wore out if the day is to long. I will work on sponsors for the event and I know in the past, there have been prizes for largest fish, smallest fish and other things like that. There will be approx 50-75 kids there ready for a great time.

Each boat would have one or possibly two kids and one counselor with you. Life jackets will be provided and possibly fishing poles. Like I said, this was just sprung on me, so as the days go on I will be gathering more information.

I hope to see a lot of interest from you guys in the event. Bring your friends that have boats, family members that have boats and help make this event a successful one. Some of the kids have suffered burns on the majority of their body, some have disfiguring injuries that have left them scared for life. They really look forward to this event and it will be a disappointment to so many if it does not happen.

I can promise you all, I have worked special Olympics, I have been a part of working other events similar to this and you will have a blast and walk away with a smile and a whole new outlook on life. So who is willing to step up and help me make this event a successful one, and possibly the best event yet!!!! lets show them that the folks at crappie.com are willing to help make a difference.

Funny story real quick. On the way to work this morning I passed a mobile home that had the back porch and half the back wall of the home on fire. There was about 6 cars in the driveway. I tried my hardest beating on the door but nobody answered so I finally found a garden house and put the fire out about 15 minutes later. Then the back door opens up and 8 teenage kids and an adult lady came out asking what was going on! Told them their house was on fire, I contacted the fire department and put out the fire. Told them I had to go to work and have a nice day. Fire department still hadn't shown up yet.

I'll check this out. Don't have a big boat to put people in but maybe I can help out somewhere else.

Put me down! My Lund will handle 2 kids, a counselor, and myself easily. It's my wife's birthday but we will just celebrate it up there. I also have a retired firefighter friend that's going to be at Crappie Camp. I'll tell him about that. It's on my calendar.

Awesome. Thanks guys so much for jumping right in and committing to this. It will be a great time. I think crappieppapa is going to take my pontoon boat so that will help. Now if we can get Fishin a Ledge to volunteer he can take the other 65 kids in his boat and still have plenty of room!!!!

Pretty sure right now Josh I am on board. For those that don't know I did a trip earlier this year with a young man and his father. This young man has cancer and it was a trip to make memories for his Dad and him. When I was contacted I was told there really wasn't any funds available to pay for my services and I responded really quick that none was needed and not to mention that again. We had an awesome trip and lots of laughs. So with that said I feel very blessed to be able to share my talents with a young man and watch him grow right in front of his dads and my eyes. Very fortunate and blessedto spend just a fraction of time making memories. Something I will never forget.......Ranger

Josh, wish I could help, but we will be in Big Sky country on that date, either baling hay or taking kids fishing at Reservoir Lake, where it will be about 70-75 degrees on August 9. Hope you get a full crew and no kids are left out.

Lol I promise if ledge comes no kids will be left behind. When ledge put his boat in at the classic they had to open the flood gates! They thought about evacuating Cookson for fear of flooding!

At least one of my sons is in but concerned about putting the kids on fish in an unfamiliar lake. Maybe as the date approaches you can revive this thread and swap ideas. Thanks.
