If you like grass shrimp, the best thing to do is buy a longhandled net with the small mesh. They are $10 maybe at Academy. If you see some vegetation emerging from the water (hydrilla, coontail, etc), scoop all in there and sift out the shrimp. Also the floating water hyacinth holds lots of shrimp under it was well. There shouldn't be a shortage of that. Your kids may really enjoy dipping the net in the vegetation and seeing whats in there, there are tons of little critters in there usually and they stay entertained. Watch out for the waterbugs though, they pack a punch. I like to use the grass shrimp on chinquapin and they are usually easy to come by in areas with lots of vegetation

Your tackle box organizational skills are to be commended.

I don't know anything about your area but around here a long jig pole for tight lining jigs around trees and such is a must....

That same net stays in my boat at all times. I've haven't been having good luck finding them in any good numbers or good sized. I'm gonna spend a little more time looking around tho. Years back a blue and white tube jig tipped with a grass shrimp was a killer bait.

Thanks for the kind words I try to keep it neat.

Everytime I try the jig on a tight line in my area I get all tangled up in grass and slime. I could be doing it all wrong tho lol. I know I'm gonna change up my tackle, rods and reels in time but doing my best to stick with what I have for now. Once I find the type of fishing that works best for me I will start to change up my gear for better stuff.

    Thanks BigTat
