    Good story! I also think it was an otter. They crafty little dudes, about like that groundhog in Caddyshack!

    we got a bunch of them up here in the hills and they will clean a pond out before you know they are there.

    anybody have a suggestion for how to handle these things, other than hook a fish and hope it comes a runnin?

    Spot light and a .22 is pretty efficient. Try checking around early morning and evening times. Someone on here may have an idea on how to trap them, maybe bait a trap with some fish. I'm just betting you have a very large coon population also and will have to weed thru them if going the trapping route.

    Btw. If this is a populated area, try a 410 gauge.

    We have a few, and I have some snare traps, but I think the gun and spotlight sounds more my speed. may dump some fish guts in the lake after cleaning and see what that produces.

    River otter all the oxbow a are full of them. I watched three playing on a pier at Washington this spring
    [SIGPIC]Drake Waterfowl Prostaff, Dakota Decoys Prostaff,F&F Boats, Mercury Marine, Rig Em Right, Crappie Logic Jigs, Slab Bandits, Hayes Calls, and Kick's Choke Tubes.
