do you fish the trees and shoreline only, Do I continue spider rigging? I'm new to this game guys so please bare with me... I grew up fishing the inshore bays of cape cod and the Islands as a kid for stripers mostly ...that and inshore commercial type fishing for scallops and clams, but never did any of this type of fishing,...l think the up and down water levels as well as the stained waters from rain , combined with cold air has delayed the spawn has got me confused on how to fish these critters. Any help sure would be appreciated,,,,thanks,,,

take a jig pole and fish the grass, tree tops, cat tails, logs, ledges easy to establish a pattern in the spring you can also troll a shallow flat . Banks with a lot of structure or just a hard bottom with grass on it. Just like flounder they will move into the shallow bays and ditches to spawn, crappie do the same thing just find a bank and start fishing it I don't get to fish much so I may have done forgot how but these things are what I would look for and you don't need a minner just take a jig and get thumped
Thanks Donald,,,,I. Just picked some crappie logics in black/ chartruse that ought to do the trick,,, what other colors would you suggest? I I can't believe how well the crappie these dang jigs compared to my tackle box full of other colors and jigs .... they Just don't hold a candle to the gnats you make,,,,,andy

What Donnie said, but if your not in to jig fishing. They can be caught Rigging. Just shallower than you would think. You will have all kinds of fish coming and going onto the flats outside the spawning areas. Thake them gnats and a few of his jig's and get fishing.
Thanks cray,,,,, think Ill try tomorrow sometime,,,, hopefully early morn .... Seems that's more productive for most folks,,, but then agin, it's spawning time,,, .....heading to Butla if all works out,,,maybe see some of ya there,,,andy

Well , I I headed to sardis around 10 am this morning and stayed all day,,,,It was just like Donald and cray said! the fish were anywhere from 20" to 20 ft today,,,,, I used Donald's bulk/ chartruse gnats tipped with Huge minnows..... though I only caught 3 all day, the fish I caught were all hawgs. My largest being some 16" fish, and the other 2 weren't much smaller,,,,, I used my theory on how I used to catch stripers back when I was a kid,,,, Small bait, small fish,,, LARGE bait, LARGE fish!
Sweet!
