    Default Brush pile ethics??

Talked to a guy Sunday at the ramp, and boy he was twisted up. And it got me thinking. So I gotta ask! Apparently he had sunk trees during the winter (welcome to the club) and everybody was fishing them. I have always took the first come approach to this, and side imaging has about made it impossible to hide anything. But that's part of it, right? Or am I missing something here?

That is just like someone fussing at you for fishing around their dock. I have gotten cussed at more than once for casting around someones dock. I never do that if anyone is on the dock, especially if they are fishing. The worst I ever got was a woman coming down from her house and laying into my buddy and me about fishing around her dock. I finally invited her to go call DNR or the police and I would wait and see what they had to say. but she stomped off still cussing.
I also will not attempt to retrieve a lure if I hang it on or around their dock, it is usually a jig and I just break it off to avoid the appearance that I trespassed on their dock.
But brush piles placed in the lake are fair game. They are in common water and anybody has the right to fish them. I have never moved in on someone fishing a brush pile, but from what I have read on here, there are folks who will barge right in on top of you.
    Takes all kinds I guess.

If that dock with the woman is on Murray, I bet I know the dock, She has give me one more hard time, heck she will sit in front of that big window and beat on the glass if you get too close, I just reached out to push the boat away from the dock alittle, and she came a running!
Everybody finds my brush, you cant keep it hid. If some one is on it, I move on to the next one.

You think that fella passes up brush piles someone else put out? Not likely. Sounds like he's fishing for the wrong reasons if he's that uptight.

As a avid crappie fishermen that has placed hundreds if not thousands of pieces of brush out in my life time I will say this; Yes, it is true that brush placed in open, public water is fair game to all that can find it, but some ethics are in place here. We place brush out in different ways, some are easily marked and findable by the most greenest of crappie anglers. Others, slightly more difficult, and others are pretty much unfindable unless I showed you exactly where they're placed at. With that said, If I was to take and show you where my brush is located, I would expect you to honor me but not fishing it when you know that I'm on the lake. When I'm not fishing, you are welcome to enjoy the fruits of my labors. If a tournament, or fishing event was coming up, and it was known that I was going to fish it, it would be appreciated if the brush wasn't fished at all a week prior to the event. Tommy and I both fish really fast when fishing brush, most times we will fish 10 to the average Joe's one. We have learned over time, to prevent hard feelings with others, we decided to put more brush out than is capable of being fished in a day. (Nobody can fish them all) This way, we always have alternate places to go in the event others are fishing on or near piles we have out. Who's to say that some one else hasn't dropped some brush right on top of where we had already had brush established.

People with side imaging has told me they used to put out brush.....now they just find and waypoint brush others puts out. It's fair game for whomever that gets there first.

This is just me and the way I am. If someone came up to me and I was fishing a pile,if they told me in a civil tone they had placed it there and would like to fish it, I'd roll up my poles and leave. If they came up yelling and hollering at me I might drag my anchor through it. It's all in how you approach people.
