Default Need help manually entering coordinates in Humminbirds

I am looking for anyone who can help me with a problem entering coordinates into my HB998 and HB788. I'm not real smart when it comes to stuff like this and thought I would seek help from some of you guys on here who are good at this. I have been given and otherwise obtained the coordinates of fish habitat on several Arkansas lakes. The problem is, they are in several different formats. For example, the Arkansas Game & Fish Commission Mapper 2.0 program shows the location of habitat and it is expressed as "35.1915 (lat) -92.7312 (long)" I participated in a cover drop last year and was given the coordinates as recorded in a Garmin handheld and they are expressed as "n3452.210 w 09312.496'". On a Corps of Engineers map given out by the COE, coordinates are expressed as "-93.20303955087 and 34.96677948552". My Question is: Is there a way to convert these coordinates to the format used and accepted by Humminbird so they can be manually entered into my units? I called Humminbird Tech Support and about all I got was that they would have to be converted to the proper format. Any help or information you electronic gurus on here can and would be willing to share with an "electronically challenged" guy would be greatly appreciated. Or if you can pass on to me the name of someone on here I could call or pm, I would appreciate that as well. Thank you in advance for your help.
My wife keeps saying I never listen to her....... or something like that!

I used this site to convert & manually input coordinates into my Lowrance Elite 5 DSI :

http://boulter.com/gps/ .... but it only seems to work with those four coordinate versions listed. I tried the Mapper Long/Lat numbers & it converted them to a spot at the south end of Lake Overcup. It would not, however, convert the other two set of coordinate numbers you posted.
It worked flawlessly for me, when converting Decimal Degree coordinates to GPS coordinates, which is what my unit recognizes.

Same here on the 1st lat / long as southern end of Overcup. 2nd was not recognized and the third on the north end of nimrod but you need to reverse the reading. They are showing it as long / lat instead of lat / long.

When I get a lat / long I go into google earth and do my search and save these locations in my places. As Pappy said you want it all to be in Decimals Degrees in the end, just makes it easier. Conversion software is one way and converting them yourself is another by a simple formula. I use this due to bad downloads on the other stuff.

For those that do not have a conversion program this is an easy way to do it.

Make sure you are reading the Lat / Long as this format in G.E. - Decimal Degrees Lat 31.014254 Long 97.583001 for example.

This clip will show you how to make sure your in Decimal Degrees.

    http://youtu.be/cFCbxTDfeHQ

    31.014254
    31 in Decimal Degrees = N31

    .014254 X 60 = .85524
= .855 (dropping the last two digits)
    New Humminbird reading = N 31 * 00.855

    97.583001
    Long being 97 = W097

    .583001 X 60 = 34.98006
= 34.980 (dropping the last two digits)
    New Humminbird reading = W097 *34.980

So you have taken a G.E. Lat / Long of 31.014254 97.583001 and turned it into something that HB can read as N 31 *00.855 W097 *34.980

Place this in your HBPC as new waypoint and transfer to unit.

SKI not planning to going to AR so no need to worry lol, shot me a PM and I'll help you out on getting the ones we can fixed up for your unit.

For those that want to use Google Earth and say GPSBabel, this is a good reference. A little fast but he gets the message out.

Why convert the Lat/Long numbers if you don’t have to?
Both your Humminbird units and HumminbirdPC can be set to display in an all degree format (dd.ddddd). On your units go to the Setup menu tab and scroll down until you find the “Position Format” menu and set it to the “dd.ddddd” setting. Your unit will have to be running in the Advanced User Mode menu setting to be able to see this menu. For HumminbirdPC just open the “Edit” drop down menus and select “Preferences”. Set the “Position format” menu to the “dd.ddddd” setting.

The all degree format is the most accurate way of expressing your position, though the ‘Birds only use out to the fifth decimal place, just drop all others after that. That is what the first and third sets of coordinates look like they are in but not sure about the second. Slabbacks is right in that you should convert a few of each set and check them with Google Earth.

If I can help, just shoot me an e-mail message. I don’t share anyone’s waypoints unless they are publically published on a web site or in a magazine. In fact I think that I have some waypoints for fish attractors from 2013 form the AGFC.. Anyone want them, just shoot me an e-mail.

Thanks Greg for that info, especially if that format is more accurate. When it's not below freezing I'll hook the unit up and try that out, Seems that I've been doing it the hard way.

    thx again

I had forgotten about this but on the AGFC web site http://www.agfc.com/resources/Pages/ResourcesMaps.aspx
Try the AGFC Interactive map link. One of the features of this is that it will allow you to download a GPX file of waypoints from it looks like any lake in Arkansas. For the few lakes I tried, these GPX files would open right up in HumminbirdPC.
