Once you get used to trolling with an I Pilot it is really hard to live without it.

Depends on what kind of fishing you mostly do. The Terrova is noisy and has a slow reaction time, and it is not the motor for all types of fishing, however, I have removed all the seats (cause you weren't going to be sitting down much) and pulled 9 crankbaits, at one time, by myself, with 6 poles out the front and 3 out the back. It would have been impossible with a cable steer. When we were running the 542, I could stand in the back and put Carol or a fishing buddy in the front seat and me run the TM from the rear. Carol often ran 8 poles by herself. I guarantee the person in the front would always have a good time. This would be impossible with a cable steer.
I am convinced that the noise sometimes spooks the fish and I hate it, but I choose to live with it because of our style of fishing.

Actually, I sort of like the wind pushing the boat around a little when in spot lock. It actually can come in good when fishing a general area (think deep bream bed or large brushpile). If you are using ten ft poles are longer, you can still reach the target area, and the movement makes it easier to present your lure from different directions. I agree, the large spot lock area is not what I expected, but it is something I can live with, and I do believe in certain situations, it is actually an advantage.
Me Fourrrrrrrrrrr. It cant be beat for trolling.
No trolling motor likes the wind and staying still. In shallow water and dock shooting I sit on the front of my boat with a sculling paddle in my hand. If I want to move to the next dock I use the remote and never have to get up.

I've noticed that if I lock on over a brush pile and even though I've drifted off a few feet that the TM head will turn and generally continues to point to the direction of the lock location. My thinking is that if I'm in open water and have no visual reference point then I can fish in the direction the head is pointing and I can generally reach that far with my jig pole. That's my $.02 worth.
