    Default Coffey Co 1/11

Water temp at the outlet ranged from 58-60. We were mainly after bass, caught lots of largemouth, smallies, and whites. We'd gotten to the lake before anyone else and we had to wait 45 minutes to put in so we fished from the bank and I managed to catch a bass and 3 crappie while we waited. All the crappies were typical Coffey Co crappie, large. One of them was even aggressive enough to eat a 5/16oz spinnerbait I was casting for bass, and it ate it well.

Couldn't keep any of those 3 since the boat wasn't in the water and I had no stringer or bucket. No crappie anywhere while bass fishing but we hit the same area by the ramp before we left and I boated 6 more crappie, 5 keepers, and lost 3 more solid keepers at the boat. All but the one on the spinnerbait ate a 3" power minnow, chartreuse/white on a 3/16 oz worm nose jighead in 6' of water with a straight, slow retrieve or deadsticked. The 5 keepers I got at the end of the day were all 13-14 inches.

If it hadn't been so windy it wouldn't have been bad. The wind kept it pretty cold and around noon the waves were so big my trolling motor was coming out of the water every wave we went over, really surprised they didn't page us off. I think the most boats we had in the outlet at any one time was 7 or 8 but everyone was very decent to each other and about as spread out as you can get in that little area so it wasn't bad.

Did you fish from the bank because you got there 45 min before the lake employees?

No, they just said we need to wait 45 minutes before we launched for some reason. It was 7:30 when we checked in so it was plenty light and no dense fog, not sure why we had to wait but I'm not going to question the guys.
