Jackie .... I can't draw a straight line with help from a ruler, color within the lines, or paint a simple red dot without multiple attempts Is there some place where an already painted crankbait could be purchased, without hooks/rings, that are somewhat cheaper than the finished product of commercial brand name lures ... where a person could purchase them & add their own "hardware"

And how about already formed plastic crankbait blanks (body & bill & hook/line rings) that are not yet painted, that a person could purchase a few of in order to practice on ... just to see if they'd like to get into the craft ??

Jann's netcraft, lurepartsonline is the ones we like can watch for special prices. My friends tell me some good buys on ebay and facebook (not a facebook fan) They have painted and unpainted!!! The painted ones are already sealed(wood baits) just paint the color you like!! No special tools just a can of spray paint(we like blick markers no smell or overspray)have a spray gun and nozzle),sealer(super glue and small paint brush)(hard as nails) lots of wood sealer find one that works for you, splitrings and hooks!! A dremel tool is real handy on sanding/cutting. Hope this helps!!! have been painting cranks for years still learning!! Like anything else lots of practice!!! lots of youtube videos on painting cranks(bassfishing guy's) Get some old cranks you have or know of and start with them and see if you like it!! Its habit forming!!

The plastic ones already painted not to bad on price(just add, split rings and hooks). The wood ones another story!! The trick is to get the wood to seal(water tight)(lots of drying time or your bait will water log(not run true)!!

Thanks, guys ... but, don't be looking for me to be producing any cranks from scratch, anytime soon

I've got two big tackleboxes full of cranks, from my Bass fishing days. If I should happen to get into pulling cranks for Crappie, I might need to touch up a few of them. If I start losing a bunch of them, THEN I might consider getting some pre-formed blanks & paint them. Seems most of the cranks that do good around here are solid colors, so no real artistic talent is needed. Good thing, too, since I really don't have any

I was also just trying to get the info out there, in case someone else might be on the fence about whether or not they'd like to give it a try ... but, didn't want to have to get into it too deep, financially, at first, until they had a chance to play around with some.
